The polymer industry provides numerous applications for continuous metering of gases such as air, nitrogen or CO2 at high operating pressures. The gas is often dispersed or completely dissolved using a static mixer. The metering process must be both continuous and pulsation-free because static mixers are typically characterised by a radial mixing performance. The dosing technology needs to be selected very carefully for this reason, especially when high pressures are involved. Fluitec has developed a novel, compact dosing unit for metering gases up to 200 bar operating pressure, which allows the gases to be dosed precisely, continuously and without pulsation. If air is the metered medium, the high-pressure gas dosing unit can be connected to any standard air compressor that supplies compressed air to the system at a minimum pressure of 8 bar and a pressure dew point of approximately 5°C. The air is filtered and optionally cooled in the Fluitec high-pressure gas system to achieve optimal dosing accuracy in continuous processes. Owing to the unusually compact type of construction, the system can be positioned directly at the injection nozzle to improve its operating reliability still further. The dosing valve is moreover fitted with a special product trap to prevent uncontrolled backflow – a common problem that could otherwise damage this expensive device beyond repair.

Advantages of the Fluitec high-pressure dosing unit:

Air, argon, nitrogen or CO2 can be added to the main stream with high dosing accuracy.

The product trap prevents backflow of the viscous or low-viscosity fluid in the event of

pressure surges on the main stream side.

The maximum gas pressure can be set upstream of the injection nozzle in order to avoid undesirable delays on starting up the plant.

Unnecessary addition of gas during production downtimes is reduced to a

minimum, so that no air bubbles get into the main stream when the plant is started up again.

Unwanted pressure surges in the main stream are effectively ruled out.
